Birthday Book Haul!

So July 4th is my birthday! Sorry to inform you but those fireworks are for me, peeps.

My *all the best adjectives* husband asked for some pointers for my gifts this year and I directed him to my TBR list. And he did.not.disappoint. I got to open 5 beautiful gift bags stuffed with a total of 13 books and nothing else and honestly it was the best.  And if you follow me on twitter you know that they only thing that could have made it better was if we actually had room on our shelves or had another shelf all together to actually house these beauties.

The first two books are the 2nd and 3rd installments of The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins.  We already owned the first book in paperback and then I had two and three on my kindle and it was just killing me not to have them all in paperback. But now we do! Yay!

Side note: it was super hard not to ask him to do this for all my favorite books I have as ebooks but not physical copies lol.

img_3582The next four books are the gorgeous boxset of The Giver Quartet. I already owned 1-3 in paperback but I wanted book 4 and I wanted them to match AND my previous copy of book 2 was bound terribly and had pages falling out and it was really depressing, okay? And I’m legit obsessed with the hard back binding of these boxset editions. I just want to pet them and snuggle them etc etc etc. I’m excited to read the 4th book because I never have and honestly I remember mostly nothing about book 2 & 3 so I’m thinking this gift warrants a whole reread and subsequent review of the series. Also it came with a map!

img_3591The next 4 books are the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. I’ve never read this series but I’ve seen the hype around town (aka the internet) for it and it’s been on my radar and TBR.  These books are gorgeous and I figured what the hell, I’d just ask for the whole set. I was honestly surprised he actually got them all and I’m definitely excited to give this series a go.

img_3579Last but not least, the next three books are The Illuminae Series by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.  Again, I haven’t read this series yet but the hype has been real and it’s been on my radar and TBR for a while.  I’ve read Amie Kaufman’s Starbound series and loved it so I was interested in this series initially just to check out more of her work.  I’d thought about doing the ebook version of these but the binding and the unique style of imagery and layout of this book is probably easier to appreciate as a physical copy (or at least that’s what I’m telling myself and my husband). Very excited to see if the hype can be lived up to in this series!

So what do you think, how’d I make out guys? Have you read these series yet? And which of the new series should I start first?

Also here’s a pic of me and the hubs on my birthday before we got so drunk that I’m still nursing a hangover 2 days later. Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July (aka Erin Day)!

  1. Happy belated birthday! (Seems like it really was happy ! ;)) You two are a great couple, and he got you all those books! You chose your husband wisely😀😀😂 Personally I’d read the Red Queen series first I think. I’d really like to get it, too.

    • Thank you so much! I ended up reading Illuminae first, I was juts peaking around at the cool format and whoops I read the whole thing! But I’m excited to see what Red Queen’s got going on

    • Thank you! He did good, sometimes it’s nice when they get you exactly what you want, I know he appreciated not having to get too creative this year too. I finished Illuminae and thought it was amazing. What did you think of Red Queen? I’ve read some mixed reviews but it sounded up my alley, hopefully I like it since I have the whole series now haha

  4. Happy Belated Birthday and I’d say he’s a keeper. My husband pretty much does the same thing at Christmas – he asks for a list to chose from and then pretty much buys what I list. Maybe you’ll get some new shelves soon. It was so hot here on the 4th but we had a cookout and a few drinks anyway. Hope the hangover wasn’t too bad!

    • Thanks! Yeah I think he appreciated not having to get too creative on his own this year and I loved getting exactly what I wanted so it worked out. We are in such a small apartment that I can’t even figure out where a new shelf would go but I keep trying to troubleshoot it everyday like maybe…there..? with no such luck so far. We’ll definitely be the couple that prioritizes a library room when we buy a house lol.
