I was tagged by Jess & Teegan @ Fiction No Chaser to do the Ultimate Book Tag. It has no rules, you just get to answer the questions, hurrah! Also please check out their blog if you don’t follow them already, they’re quite fun, spunky, in their words snarky, and they read some really good books.
The Questions
1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?
Not really. I never did as a child and now I do only ever once in while and not very severe.
2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?
Okay I’m totally stealing Teegan’s answer. I’ve only read the first book of the Illuminae Files so far but with the story being told through documents, memos, security footage, transcripts, charts, emails, etc. it’s just completely unique and mesmerizing.
3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.
Harry Potter. But I do really like Twilight and I’m not sorry about it. My 3 points to defend Harry Potter are:
1) magic 2) epic quests 3) Ron Weasley. bonus point: 4) the humor.
4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it (besides books…)?
Nope just a purse. or a large tote for work, filled with work things.
5. Do you smell your books?
Sometimes but mostly I just pet them. Not my ebooks though, that would be weird.
6. Books with or without little illustrations?
Idk I’m leaning toward without because it sounds a little distracting and I like to imagine things without them. However I love the illustrations for the Harry Potter chapters so there are definitely times it can be done well.
7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?
Um. I feel like most things I’ve read a second time I’ve still liked. So idk.
8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!
Also like Teegan, my parents were always confiscating flashlights from me to stop me from reading at night and never sleeping. I got creative though. My sisters had this Winnie the Pooh Barbie doll that came with this like flashlight back pack thing? And I would use that but since it was just a toy you had to hold down the button the whole time to make the light work and my fingers would get all cramped up. But still I persevered.
Omg wait, I just googled it found the doll, FLASHLIGHT FUN STACIE & POOH!!!!
9. What is the thinnest book on your shelf?
The Doors of Perception & Heaven and Hell by Aldous Huxley
10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?
Jane Austen’s seven novels in one binding.
11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?
That’s my dream! But I haven’t been putting in time to write other than for this blog or work recently.
12. When did you get into reading?
Since forever? I remember begging my parents to read us stories at night and then being so proud when I could read on my own I started carrying Dr. Seuss books around with me in my backpack everywhere.
13. What is your favourite classic book?
I haven’t read that many to be honest so probably Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
14. In school what was your best subject?
I gotta agree with Jess on this one. English was usually my best when I wasn’t procrastinating. My teachers complimented my ability in critical analysis or whatever and I could always bullshit reason my way through essays. Also I wrote like a huge paper on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and got an A and I never actually read the book. I remember I saved it on my computer as Chuckleberry Finnface. hahahah still makes me laugh.
15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated…what would you do?
I gotta agree with both Jess and Teegan here, be gracious and accept it and then later donate it or something. Only if it was my sister would I be like omg WHAT were you thinking giving me this. Or my husband so I could exchange it for something better and berate him for not knowing I’d already read and hated it.
16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?
Um. mmmm. I love the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane. It’s not like the Hunger Games, but maybe kind of like Harry Potter because of, the wizards part? It’s also pretty sci-fi though so it’s not really like it either series. IDK. Do YOU know????
17. What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while filming?
Definitely doesn’t apply to me.
18. What is your favorite word?
Idk. It used to be lackadaisical so we’ll go with that.
19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?
What is the difference? All? Though I do feel more comfortable calling myself a nerd or dork than a dweeb.
20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?
Definitely depends how they are written. Jeaniene Frost’s vampires and Sarah J. Maas’s faeries are my favorites of both.
21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?
Shapeshifters. Angels are usually too biblical for me.
22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?
Werewolves. Spirits F R E A K me out too much and idk how to root for a happy ending for them.
23. Zombies or Vampires?
Vampires. Zombies are just dead monsters not characters to me.
24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?
Everyone says they are tired of love triangles but I can still get into them. But forbidden love is just soooo satisfying when it pans out.
25. AND FINALLY: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?
I love both but definitely need a balance of books and balanced romance in the books. I think I’m leaning towards action-packed but the love scenes need to be really good and built up and worth only having a few.
