Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. The topics are scheduled in advance which you can check out here.
Today’s topic is: Back to School/Learning Freebie
Books with a school setting:
- Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling – Howgarts, ever heard of it?
- House of Night by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast – School for vampires!
- Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar – Hilarious zany school that that was built vertical instead of horizontal – and magical realism for kids!
- Confessions of Georgia Nicolson By Louise Rennison – All girls British prep school filled with boy crazy loons!
Books that I read for school and loved:
- Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt
- The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
- 1984 by Georgia Orwell
- The Giver By Lois Lowry
- The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
- A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
I always loved that back to school feeling! Fall is on the way, back to school shopping, picking out your outfit for the first day, new classes, new friends, new boys, all new possibilities. I really get nostalgic for back to school this time of year but after 20 years of schooling I think I’m okay just being nostalgic and not doing something stupid like going back for any more college degrees (three is enough I say, enough!).
Have you read any of these?
What books give you those back to school feels?
The first Harry Potter always gives me the ‘back to school’ vibe, as does Enid Blyton’s Mallory Towers! Two great series’ set in two very different schools! 🙂
